Reflection Grove

Welcome!

At SPCC, the Reflection Grove classroom is a child’s last stop before heading off to kindergarten. We work to ensure that their time with us is filled, not only with exposure to early academics, but with plenty of exploration and play as well!

Below, you can view images of our classroom environment, read up on a couple of the things we focus on during a child’s time in Reflection Grove, and view our daily schedule. Please note: our schedule is very flexible and subject to change based on the students’ day-to-day needs and interests.

Kindergarten Readiness

The skills we work towards developing with our students are ones that will help ease them into their first year at the elementary level. Our classroom, like the rest of the school, is very inquiry-driven - we follow the interests of the class in order to provide meaningful learning experiences. Through hands-on, long-term projects that are often centered around art and nature, we offer the students opportunities to explore what most interests them while integrating academic concepts in subjects like math, science, literacy, social studies, art, and music. We also foster our students’ growing independence, as this is something they will have even more of when they transition to kindergarten. One way we do this is by encouraging students to try something on their own first and then ask a peer for help before coming to a teacher.

Social & Emotional Development

Besides academics, we recognize that kindergarten is a year full of new social interactions involving peers and teachers, and a child’s social and emotional skills affect not only personal relationships, but also self-esteem and academic growth. As our students’ skills in these areas continue to mature, we encourage them to navigate social situations more independently. We incorporate role-playing, social stories and character development, theatre games, and small group work to foster positive relationships among our students. Other aspects of social skills that we focus on include conflict resolution, social confidence, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence.
